Our mission is to get our youth to take advantage of the outdoors and the fun they can have enjoying the wonders of this beautiful planet. It is sad to see so many of our youth playing computer games all day and suffering from Obesity, because of lack of exercise and bad choices we make when it comes to the food we eat. Parents, our families could be living the life reality with NO -TV. Exercise, sports, outdoor recreation is fun; it also builds confidence and an appetite for nutritious foods.
Stand up Paddle Boarding is a water sport for the whole family. We are focusing on the benefits that the whole family can enjoy on a day of SUP. As parents, we can take the lead by showing our children how much fun it can be to spend an afternoon in our natural environment and let them burn some energy in a healthy way. The Oceans, Lakes and waterways provide a serene place to go for a peaceful time for all of us, whether alone or with friends to re-connect with ourselves and our beautiful planet.
Whether it is surf, river or lake, SUP is a great way to introduce water-sports into your life and enjoy the nature around you!
Even though I live in a city made of many islands and I am surrounded by the ocean, I prefer a tranquil lake for paddleboarding. For me it is about the peace and serenity to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC. I think it comes from having grown up in central Texas surrounded by many freshwater lakes. That's what I love about paddleboards, that it's not necessary to have tremendous waves or water energy. I also love the holistic workout that you get from even a short session on the paddleboard. I didn't realize I had muscles on the soles of my feet that could be exercised! I love that this is an outdoor sport that I can do with my husband who is so much more hard-core for the outdoors.
I grew up land-locked in Northern Illinois. I moved to New York City when I was 19 years old and realized I belong near the ocean. I love eating fresh seafood, I love the smell of the ocean, and I love watching the ships on the harbor. I am also a boater. As an avid backpacker, boater and outdoorsman I realized that I needed to experience the water - not just by boat - but by being a part of the water and working with the currents as well as getting exercise. That's where paddleboards come in for me. It's a great way to break away from the stresses of life, get fit, have fun, and be in some very powerful nature.
I fell in love with paddle boarding while living in Costa Rica. I realized this was a sport everyone could participate in. When we moved back to the United States, I realized that the lake we live by is perfect for paddle boarding. Many people believe you have to live by an ocean to be able to enjoy this sport. My mission is to share my love for this sport with as many as possible.
I grew up in San Diego, CA. so I spent most of my time at the local beaches. I joined the US Army after high school. After retiring from the military my wife and I decided to start a contracting company which in 8 short years we were in a position to sell the company and was able to completely retire. My family and I decided to move to Costa Rica in 2010 to start a new chapter in our lives. Of course we had to live near the beach so we decided to live on the Pacific coast. Our main focus was to share in the missionary work for the English field which was an amazing opportunity during our 2 years there. A bonus for being on the coast is that during our leisure time I was able to get caught up on surfing, kayaking, and really became interested in SUP. Since my family and I are water lovers, upon our return to the states my wife and I decided to partner with our family to start Waterside Sports, LLC, home of Bambu SUP.
